She experienced much sickness and weakness during childhood. During early life her father lost his life in an accident and her mother 2 years after of sickness. Lina Sandell lost her only child during childbirth. She found a comfort and a relationship in the Lord. All her poems and songs, which she wrote 1700 of, are witnessing about this community with God . Beside studying theology and authoring psalms, she became editor in chief of evangelical journals . In early life she began reading the Bible herself and listened to the preaching of it. C.O Rosenius` outlining of the Scripture created freedom and inspiration in her own life. Her spiritual life and her production had an enormous impact in Scandinavia and in the world. Many people even today are helped finding the way to God because of her.

Heard in childhood. Hard to forget. Old, but I can still hear them in my heart. ...............

Text: Johannes Barstad (1857 - 1931)
Instr, arr, vocal, mix and production
by Fred Andersen, August 2009

Johannes Barstad (born 7. april 1857 in Volda, Norway, died in 1931). A Norwegian pastor, poet and writer of hymns. In his period many became believers in that western part of the country. He was founder and editor of the evangelical journal "Stille Stunder" meaning "Quiet Times". You can still buy this magazine today. This was the first evangelical journal written on the New Norwegian language (nynorsk) in Norway. Nynorsk was close to the way people spoke and more separate from the Danish version that for so many years had dominated the written language.

Hymn (norwegian). Words and melody by Elias Blix (1836-1902). Vocal, instruments, arr, mix and production september 2008: Fred Andersen
From north of Norway. Educated priest, continued to study Old Testament theology and Hebrew language which he spoke fluently. He became a professor in the subject. The education to be a priest he finished with perfect results and a godly mind, but the bishop in charge of the commune he camed from refused to let him preach because he was son of a farmer and was from the north and was among the "ordinary" people. Thus, he never practised as a priest. He was a highly skilled man and the norwegian prime minister asked him to join the goverment. He was for many years responsible for the educational system and the church affairs. He was the man behind one of the most important reforms in the school system making the norwegian language more independant from the "danish version" and close to the way we pronounce it. He made the main royal hymn. He knew the mind of the people and preached with his psalm which he made 130 of. He is maybe the greatest hymn writer in Norway. "If not God is the builder we do everything in vain", he sung. In politics he experienced resistance because of his faith. Because of this "unproper" new norwegian it was not until after his death his songs was accepted in the state church. The road he went produced fruits for the whole country. A great minister on a humble road: "With Jesus I want to go....."
